Finding a moving company.

How do you find a moving company?

Like anything today the quickest way is via the internet.  Be warned there is a huge difference between a moving company, a moving broker and a million or so other companies that claim to be movers that are not.  Without getting too far into the danger zones, finding a company who is local, planning to do an in home estimate and has been in business for more than a week, will go a long way in creating a path for a successful move.

To gather information and create a potential list of movers ask friends, relatives and neighbors who they used.  Research companies on movingscam.com, protectyourmove.gov and angieslist.  Open the phone book and call the movers listed.  Who was pleasant?  Who answered their phones with great customer service?  Narrow this down to 3 to schedule in home estimates with them.  In home estimates are highly recommended in order to plan for a successful move.  Even after an in home estimate you still may want to research your mover.

Being in the moving industry I would strongly recommend getting 3 in home estimates with companies that had great up front service.  This should be the no brainer part of the article that says the company answered there phones when you called, returned a message promptly or responded to an email/website inquiry with more questions (not a blind guess guaranteed price).  If the company was rude to you before you were there customer ,what does this say about the company as a whole?

Find someone local.  Find someone reputable.  Get an in home estimate (or 3).  Price is always a factor but should not be the only factor.  Who did you feel most comfortable with?  The company you hire is only moving everything you own.
